Dr. Hill
Communication Criticism
Communication Criticism Communication Criticism was my favorite communications class I've taken at Wheaton. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about rhetorical framing from Dr. Hill and then applying it to my chosen topic. I chose to write about modern interpretations of Nordic mythology and the ethics of accurate and respectful interpretations of culturally significant texts. Through my time as a Communication Media Major, I have been blessed with opportunities to learn about how media gives a voice to the unheard and how it can help revive dwindling cultures. Given that the media has this power, the stories being told must be true to the source material. To love someone their context must be known. Thus, what I am seeing of this culture must be true. In this paper, I used narrative critique and genre critique to craft and formulate my claim. Throughout the class, I developed my research and writing skills as well as learned about new forms of mediated advocacy.
