The Gradual Cascade. The Slow Rush
My time at Wheaton
In high school, my world revolved around Music and the Performing arts. I was a nationally recognized singer and dancer and I was certain this was my vocation. However, after joining the Wheaton College Conservatory, the Lord made it very clear through trial and error that my calling was not music. I started college at square one. I only had four years to discover my vocational calling. Thus, The Gradual Cascade had begun. The last Four years have felt like a crawl. Every Week, Month, Year feels like an eternity. However, all put together feels like only moments have passed. How have I developed my vocation during the prolonged hurry?
Coming into College I was convinced that my vocational calling was rooted in music. Ever since I was six, I always had an instrument in my hand. Thus I sent an audition tape to Wheaton and got in. After I left the conservatory I needed the liberal arts to form my vocation. Without the multidisciplinary educational approach that the liberal arts provides, I am uncertain that I would know what my vocation is. My calling is to serve. Nice and simple. It is because of the liberal arts that I have a job at International Justice Mission as a journalist and media coordinator thus helping me live out my vocation. I believe there is much for me to learn regarding skills. However, Wheaton College has laid the foundation and helped me become a more loving communicator. This brings me to my thesis statement: If Communication is rooted outside of love, it is pointless. Love and advocacy is key
